I’ve heard this many times but I know from experience that many many draftees were under constant pressure to sign up for schools that would place them in non combat mos throughout basic and ait which turned them into RA or “volunteers”. Also, a tremendous number of 18 year olds volunteered to recruiters who told them if they were drafted they would become infantry and be sent to vietnam but if they signed up they could pick their mos and duty station.

They are counted as volunteers which they really were not!
